Chapter 19: Don't Open Doors Carelessly

A brief clash resulted in the death of four people, a grim reality that left everyone present in shock and fear.

The students who managed to live were all regretting their decision. If they had stayed behind, even if they might have starved to death, it would still be better than this. Facing the constant threat of death was a completely different concept from slowly waiting to die in a safe environment.

An enraged male student turned towards the bespectacled man, Wang Cheng, trembling as he grabbed his collar, "It's all because of you! It's your fault! I'll kill you!"

With these words, he tightly gripped the small knife in his hand and lunged towards Wang Cheng.

Under the influence of fear and resentment, the student's eyes were bloodshot, his face filled with murderous intent, his movements without any hesitation. Clearly, he had been driven mad by terror... People in such a state are extremely dangerous, capable of anything in their frenzy.

"Clang!"

Although this scene came about suddenly, Xia Na was the first to react, flicking her wrist to knock the student's knife out of his hand with her long sword.

Liu Yuhao was also completely stunned, but the sound of metal clashing brought him back to his senses. He rushed over and grabbed the student, and delivered a fierce punch: "Have you gone mad?!"

Meanwhile, Wang Cheng's face had turned deathly pale, his whole body trembling uncontrollably. After finally catching his breath, the look he gave the student was extremely hostile.

The knocked-down student was also dazed, slowly getting up with a lost expression. The burst of impulse had thrown him into mental confusion. It was understandable, as ordinary people suddenly experiencing death up close would inevitably suffer a temporary psychological collapse. However, human resilience was actually quite strong, and after the breakdown, they would quickly regain their composure in the face of the harsh reality.

Ling Mo, who had been silently observing, noticed the look in Wang Cheng's eyes, and couldn't help but feel a chill down his spine.

Such a gaze from an apparently mild-mannered student was truly unsettling...

"Alright, let's leave quickly."

Xia Na's tone had turned cold, the loss of five classmates in such a short trip clearly weighing heavily on her.

Wang Cheng snapped out of it, glancing at Xia Na nervously before forcing a smile: "Let's go."

Having just narrowly escaped being killed, yet able to smile so easily, this person's cunningness was far beyond his age... Ling Mo silently marveled, then took Ye Lian's hand and quickly followed Xia Na and the others out of the commercial building.

After temporarily leaving the densely packed zombie area, the rest of the journey was relatively safer. They even managed to rest for a while in a supermarket, searching for some food to replenish their strength. If possible, it would be best to find some stored provisions for dinner.

The supermarkets in the city looked like they had been looted many times, and knives that could generally be used as weapons, as well as the most important food, had all been robbed. Although there are leaks, they are often found under collapsed shelves, disgusting plasma residue, or even among bones.

But the living environment in the apocalypse is inherently cruel, so finding anything edible was already considered a blessing. As soon as they entered the supermarket, the survivors immediately began searching.

Ling Mo felt relaxed when he saw Xia Na guarding the door, and took Ye Lian for a walk in this relatively large supermarket.

The supermarket was filled with a strong smell of blood and putrefaction, and corpse remains could be seen everywhere. Many foods that could be used as raw materials, such as rice, had completely deteriorated in this environment and were completely inedible. But even if they could find it, it would be impossible for this group of people to make a fire and cook on the spot.

After his mental powers had improved, Ling Mo felt his senses had become much sharper. For example, with the same visual conditions and observation methods, he could now notice many details he had previously just glanced over. To be precise, he didn't particularly care about these details, but they were now immediately recorded in his mind the moment they entered his field of vision.

This was why Ling Mo had noticed the look in Wang Cheng's eyes - originally he didn't pay much attention to this seemingly ordinary survivor, only casually glancing at him before.

While wandering around the supermarket at this time, although there was nothing gained, Ling Mo vaguely felt that something was wrong.

It was as if he was being watched!

But looking around, there was no one there... Ling Mo frowned and carefully observed the environment in the supermarket. When entering this supermarket, Xia Na and Liu Yuhao had already searched it, and all the zombies they found had been eliminated. It stands to reason that there would be no one here except them.

However, with so many shelves, Ling Mo's field of vision was limited, making it difficult to inspect every corner of the supermarket thoroughly.

But just as he was leading Ye Lian down one of the aisles, he suddenly stiffened, then a flash of delight appeared on his face!

Ye Lian's instinctive reaction had revealed a strong sense of desire and aggression - a clear sign that there was a mutated zombie somewhere in this supermarket!

But why did he only feel it now... A strong sense of foreboding welled up in Ling Mo's heart.

“Ah! Help!”

Sure enough, a miserable howl suddenly rang out, and Ling Mo immediately rushed toward the direction of the sound with Ye Lian.

Of course, he wasn't going to rescue anyone, but to find the mutated zombie!

After passing through several rows of shelves, an extremely bloody scene suddenly appeared in front of Ling Mo's eyes. In front of a half-open warehouse door, there was a survivor whose arms were torn off and his intestines were taken out, but he was still twitching slightly with his eyes wide open, and a boy who was rushing towards him crazily, it was Lu Xin.

“Help! Help!”

Despite his past hatred for Ling Mo, Luo Xin was now in a state of sheer terror, desperately seeking aid.

Ling Mo's pupils constricted, barely sparing Luo Xin a glance before controlling Ye Lian to flank from the side.

Following behind Luo Xin was a massive figure! At least 1.8 meters tall, covered in fat, with small red eyes that radiated an extremely frenzied, bloodthirsty gleam, yet its movements were surprisingly agile. In the blink of an eye, it had reached Luo Xin's back and swatted him with its huge palm, sending Luo Xin flying several meters away with an agonizing scream.

"Damn!" Seeing a living person being so violently knocked away right before his eyes was quite a shock to Ling Mo. But with such speed and overwhelming strength, it was no wonder it could dismember someone in the blink of an eye.

The situation was clear - Luo Xin and the survivor who was now barely clinging to life had recklessly opened the tightly sealed warehouse door, releasing the mutated zombie trapped inside.

In the apocalypse, opening doors carelessly is simply courting death!
